Sooooo, this year’s Tuska is done and seen. Let’s see what I’ve got from it.
I was supposed to meet couple of my friends but due to my awful phone malfunctioning I didn’t saw them until evening. Anyways, I saw the Omnium Gatherum first. Pretty awesome band, their newest album is solid and awesome. I left a bit before their set ended so I could see Cause for Effect.
"We are cause for effetct, we play 30 minutes and 30 songs!" The band is considered as "jazzcore" or grindcore and there’s only drummer and basist. It’s damn awesome and they gave awesome performance. I loved the whole set.
After the gig I HAD to listen to Arch Enemy and Electric Wizard because my friends were still preparing for Tuska at home! I have never really liked Arch Enemy but it was kinda nice to see woman growling even though I’ve heard better growling from some chinese woman(no I don’t remember which band it was). I have always loved Electric Wizard but their set was kinda routine.
Anyways, THE one and only Oranssi Pazuzu which I have wanted to see for so long time totally delivered. Only one bad thing… The song I love the most was played at first so the rest of set was kinda soso. But I love these guys, psychedelic black metal for the win!
Had kinda bad start for the day, awful hangover… I met my friends just before Epica started playing. I wanted to see the band just because of my redhead fetish.. Simone is goddess. :D I don’t think I can recognize other of their songs than Never Enough which is very cheesy and poppish song and yet I like it very much. Their set wasn’t that good, once again more like routine gig and they didn’t seem to have that much fun at the stage.
After the Epicfail we went back to my friend’s place to “prepare”. Most of them were eager to see Blind Guardian live. I missed the Katatonia which is kinda sad but not the end of the world. I think I own one of their albums(the night at opera?). I haven’t listened to them in something like ten years. I didn’t even remember how much double bass blasting it contained(instant WIN for me). I think that the gig looked like routine once again, not sure though, I should have asked one of my friends.
Later in the evening Devin Townsend and Anneke(hottttt) rocked the place. You could actually see how much they enjoyed performing. I got chance to see them earlier this year too which was kinda let down but this time they OWNED totally. I loved to see all the little facial expressions Devin did and how he enjoyed playing. It’s just chilling to see this kind of stuff. Wow is all I can say.
Yet another hangover day.. The band which actually made me buy the ticket was performeing today. MESHUGGAH, holy fuck. I got chills all over me when they started their set. The music is indescribably good, I don’t even understand how the fuck they can play that stuff. I know probably basics about drumming and DAMN.. They are just insane. I don’t think I can ever describe the gig to give it enough merit. It was probably in my top three of the metal gigs ever. After that the day was musically downhill but socially awesome.
I went to see Gaf after that. It’s a small Finnish grindcore band. Their set was pretty awesome too and I loved their enthusiastic performance. Thumbs up for them.
After that I headed back to my friends. I think Amorphis was performing at the time. Not really my kind of music so I just ignored it. I also met some redhead druing this time which I can’t forget ever. If I wasn’t such a chickenshit I would have probably tried something. :D
The last performer for the day and for the Tuska was Amon Amarth. Again, not really my kind of music and to be honest I didn’t even mind them much. I was too busy trolling with my friends!
All in all, fucking awesome weekend. There were probably four bands which “touched” me and it was mostly because of their live performance. Cause for Effect, Oranssi Pazuzu, Devin Townsend and Meshuggah. They were all totally awesome. Also I had so fucking good time with my friends I hadn’t seen that much. Damn, it was memorable weekend. <3
